A free world-class education for anyone anywhere.

Khan Academy is an organization on a mission. We're a not-for-profit with the goal of changing education for the better by providing a free world-class education for anyone anywhere.

All of the site's resources are available to anyone. It doesn't matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology. Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge.

I'm looking for the people who share the idea.

Will you join us? We are working on Khan academy internationalization project.

There are a lot of problems in this world: poverty, energy, disease, pollution, social inequality, global warming, and so forth. One thing is clear to me: without this world, nobody can survive. It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, clever or not, strong or not, we cannot survive without the world. To avoid our extinction, I believe we need every brain in the world to solve these problems. In this sense, racism is suicide of human being to me. We don't know who comes up with a solution for the energy problem. We don't know who finds the cure for cancer or diabetes. Therefore I believe free learning material for everyone is necessary.

If you see the same vision, join us. But, this is NOT THE solution, this is just A possible solution. There are many way you can contribute to the world. The world means the place of you, your family and children, your friends to live. It will be a long way, but I believe this is worth to do.

How to contribute (In Japanese)

There are a few kinds of translation tasks of Khan academy.

Notice for the translation

No publishing (There are some strings which will not be published including the strings which will be retired.)
You could see some of the following items in Crowdin, but they will not be published in Japanese Khan academy site. If you have any questions, please contact us.
- Skill check: All the skill check will be retied and will be removed. (2019)
- Some Thirdparty: Some contents provided by thirdparty can not publish due to the copyright。 (Example: Pixer in Box) (2019)
- Region dependent contents: Common Core (California only)， Eureka (New York only), India (India only)

Site translation: Crowdin

Crowdin: "Crowdin" is a translation platform web site to translate the Khan academy web site. To join this task:
1. Visit https://crowdin.net/join and create a Crowdin account.
2. Choose "Assistance Languages." under the "Edit Profile".
3. Click https://crowdin.net/project/khanacademy , choose your language. At this point, you are asked to register to the translator group. Please register and wait for the confirmation from the group.
4. Click the green "translate" button, to go to the next page.
5. Start translation
The figure below shows translating arithmetic exercise in Japanese on Crowdin.
Note: Sometimes ths system loses your trsnaltion work. This should not happen. We (translators) complained a few times, but, it still sometimes happens. Please keep your tramslation copy locally. You can download a po file via menu's File -- Download. If you download your translation as a po file, you can upload it later.

Video caption: YouTube

Add a caption

We can add video captions using YouTube's caption functionality. We can add our captions to any YouTube videos. But if you want to check untranslated videos, we can use Khan academy's translation dashboard. (only Math so far)

If you have your own YouTube channel, go My Channel -- Video manager -- Your contribution, and then, you can add your captions. Please note, this seems currently only for your uploaded video.

You can also directory go to the YouTube FunCation page with ${YouTubeId} with

   https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_video?v=${YouTubeID}

Procedure of adding a caption

Below is the screen shot of Khan academy translation dashboard. You can choose a video to translate here.
Then, that brings you to YouTube video page.
Choose the language to which you translate.
You can translate directly shown in below. Or, you can download the In the following image. In the latter case, you can see the "Actions" drop down button,
When you finished, push the "Submit for review" button. After the review the caption will be shown up in the video.
You can directly jump to the video review page using ${YouTubeId}. This is useful when you know the YouTubeID of the video.

Note: You cannot do both Submit and Review from the same account. I think this is a policy to keep the quality of the caption. At least two people needs to check the caption before published.

Review a caption

To review a caption, you need YouTube account (or Google account).

Procedure of review the caption

You can choose the reviewing video as shown in the add a caption section. (Note: you cannot review your own submitted caption.) When the review is possible, the video shows "Review" of Subtitles & CC.
When you checked the caption until the end, now you can choose the review result. (When you edit the caption contents, it seems another review is needed.) If the caption has no problem, you can approve the caption.
Submit the result. (In this Figure, we submit the approve.)
The following is the confirmation dialog of the Submit result. Please push the "Submit" button here.
The caption became the "Publiched" state.
When you close the dialog, you see the Subtitle & CC became also "Publiched" state.
Now you can see your caption from the YouTube video.

- Video Editing software: Camtasia Studio 8.6 (Not Camtasia Studio 9.1. After I bought Camtasia 9.1, I realized that the 9.1 has removed synchronization between Captions view and Caption track. I strongly recommend to use 8.6 for the subtitle synchronization. (I have submitted the request of reviving this feature in 9.1.))
